COLICHEMARDE AND DAGGER
The Colichemarde emerged on the sword scene in the late 1600's during the decline of the Rapier and the rise of the small sword. Its long suit was its uniquely shaped blade that was extra wide at the forte then stepped down or narrowed for the rest of its length before ending in a wicked point. The advantage of this configuration was it allowed the sword to be used to parry or oppose even the heaviest weapons without breaking, yet remain light and supple enough to take full advantage of its lightning quick point.
our president Lynn C. Thompson has long been an admirer of the Colichemarde due to its great versatility in attack or defense so we enlisted the aid of our good friend Dave Baker, and made our own modern interpretation. True to form, our blade mirrors the original design concepts with an extra long and wide forte that abruptly tapers down to an acute and deadly point. The hilt features a decorative, yet highly functional, double shell guard, complete with finger loops and knuckle bow, while the grip is completely wire wrapped and capped with a matching pummel. Additionally, we have also taken the liberty of creating a matching dagger with a stiff, beautifully ground and polished blade, double quillons, and wire wrapped handle.

The hunting sword or “Hanger' is an iconic short bladed weapon (seldom over 26') that became quite popular in Europe and the Americas during the 16th and 17th centuries. Among the reasons for its popularity, outside of the dictates of fashion, was that it was an immensely handy, effective sword that was the perfect companion whether you were on foot, horseback, or on a crowded deck at sea! Like many of the originals, our version is quite stylish. The blade is saten polished with multiple fullers and a wicked false edge. The intricately hand carved handle is made from Rosewood and ornamented with nickel-silver pins. The scabbard's style harmonizes engagingly with the sword's design. It's made from heavy, black leather and capped at each end with an embossed nickel-silver throat and chape.

The Facon is the national knife of Argentina where the Gauchos made it famous as its large and simply shaped blade proved ideal for everything from dispatching game and livestock to repairing tack and saddles to cooking and eating the evening meal. With a blade that resembles an oversized chef knife the Facon can trace its roots back to the 14th century where it was widely used and carried by just about everyone, from peasant and serf all the way up to the landed nobility. In fact, it was so popular it jumped the Atlantic Ocean with the first European immigrants and became established through out North and South America. Now ColdSteel is delighted to present our version of this iconic knife. Forged in the classic shape from 1090 high carbon steel with a wide, thick blade it measures a full 12' long and offers extensive hand filed “jimping' along the “spine'. The handle of our Facon is also hand carved in traditional fashion out of exotic Malaysian Sal Wood and is capped fore and aft with a nickeled steel bolster and pommel. Even the scabbard of our big Facon continues to follow Argentina's tradition by being molded out of thick black leather that is sewn with a center seam and equipped with a fancy nickeled steel chape.

Thompson. our 1917 Cutlass features the signature 25" curved blade and a half basket guard that,s stamped out of heavy 18-guage high carbon steel, and both the blade and guard are blued to resist rusting. The handle is made from carefully shaped hardwood, painted brown and secured to the tang by three heavy brass cutler's rivets.
The scabbard is an accurate reproduction of the original and is made of high quality leather and features brass and copper fixtures. It can be worn comfortably at the side on a pistol belt without chafing its owner.

Most swords offered today are interpretive copies of antiquities from feudal Japan. They were made for warrior,s of small stature who seldom rose above five and a half feet. As skillfully designed as these swords are, they may not be perfectly suited for the twenty first century warrior, who benefited from contemporary advances in childhood nutrition and healthcare and grew up to be a substantially taller, stronger, and more athletic version of his historical counterpart.
As a way of compensateng for this size disparity, ColdSteel has created the Dragonfly Series. These swords feature thicker, wider and heavier blades, which mirror our Emperor Series in respect to heat treatment, polish, quality of furnishings, and attention to detail, but with a few new departures.

ColdSteel's Thompson Saber is not a historical or period-specific sword; rather it is a newly developed, thoroughly modern saber. Designed by ColdSteel President Lynn C. Thompson, and bearing his name, the Thompson Saber was created to Lynn's exact specifications. Lynn said: “I wanted to make a battle sword. For over a century, most of the Western world has remained convinced that a point-oriented, thrusting sword is superior to an edge-oriented cutting sword. There are, however, a series of books by D.A. Kinsley that cast a skeptical light on this running debate. Kinsley recounts numerous incidents (collected form battlefields throughout the British Empire) where cutting swords proved equal, if not superior, to thrusting swords in deciding the outcome of a skirmish.
our President, Lynn C. Thompson was encouraged by Mr. Kinsley's ideas and after considering all the evidence decided to produce one of the best cutting swords ever devised: The Indian Talwar.
Taking a cue from the most experienced Indian Swordsmen of the past, and the Pindari chief of old, Amir Khan, Lynn has combined a strongly curved British Light Cavalry blade with its distinctive hatchet point (wider near the tip than the forté) with a traditionally styled Indian hilt.
The blade is hand forged from tough 1055 Carbon steel and features a broad fuller and a combat sharp edge. The hilt is equally well made. Fashioned from brass with an intricately decorated surface, it offers short, thick quillons, a single knuckle bow and the traditional dish shaped pommel to lock in your hand.
Supplied with an excellent scabbard made of wood covered in black leather and capped at either end with a thick brass throat and chape, our Indian Talwar is a ferociously effective cutting sword that will serve you well on or off the battlefield.
